According to New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski, Sgt. Aaron LaTourette and Officer Matthew Blank arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the call.
Once on the scene, the two quickly determined that the patient was not breathing and had no pulse.
The officers deployed an automatic external defibrillator, which administered a shock. The officers continued CPR and performed other lifesaving care until the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived on the scene.
After a bit of time, the person regained a pulse and was transported to the hospital by NCVAC.
The officers who handled the incident will soon receive the department's Medical Lifesaving Award, the chief said.
"Thanks to their training, professionalism, and expert care, they saved a life," Krolikowski said. "We are proud of how these officers embody our mission, which is 'To Protect and Serve the community with courage, professionalism, and integrity.' Their compassion is to be celebrated."
He also thanked Norwalk Hospital and the NCVAC for being critical partners in hundreds of calls the department answers.
"There is no greater reward than saving a life," Krolikowski added.
